Blinds GlossaryVertical BlindsVertical blinds are blinds that are made up of wide slats that can be opened or closed in a similar way to traditional Venetian blinds. They are joined together at the top and bottom by a thin cord or chain running through each of the slats. As with Venetian blinds, they can be partially opened, or closed, and can also be drawn back from the window completely when required. Vertical blinds are usually made of a treated fabric that means that they can usually be wiped down with a damp cloth, washed with a warm soapy solution, or dusted with a dry cloth. The design means they can be difficult to clean, but the many specialised tools on the market make this task easier. Vertical blinds are available in many colours, although probably not as many as some of the other styles of blinds available. Vertical blinds enable the user to have them fully closed, fully open, but you can also adjust them to provide the level of light entry that you want, thus providing a filter when required. Vertical blinds are particular useful for long and wide windows such as patio doors, as they can be moved from side to side, rather than up and down. If you need to use the doorway, it is a simple procedure of pulling a chord to drawn them back as you would curtains. Using them for large windows mean that you are able to cut down on the heat from the large glass area but closing them completely, or by half closing them, you can still cut out much of the light or sun, while still allowing light to come through. On the whole, unless the window is of standard size, it would be best to choose the made-to-measure blinds, as they can be difficult for a novice to fit. However, you are confident of your fitting skills then readymade vertical blinds can provide a cost effective option. |
