Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are made up of vertical slats joined together, so that when they are closed they form a complete shield from outside light sources. They are usually operated by a cord that enables the user to lift the blind up completely, and by either a chord or rigid narrow pole that enables the slats to be opened and closed.

Venetian blinds are available in a variety of colours, and many different effects, for example it is possible to buy wooden effect blinds as well as the actual wooden Venetian blinds. The blinds are light and usually made from thin plastic slats, which means that they can be wiped clean. It should be possible to obtain these blinds to match any décor, and they are suitable for home and office use. These blinds are particularly useful as they enable the user to decide how much light they want to come through the window. The blinds do not have to be completely closed, or completely open, thus providing a filter without blacking out the window.

Although usually made from wipe clean materials, Venetian blinds can be hard to clean as each slat has to be cleaned individually. They also have a tendency to gather dust, so regular cleaning is a must. However, there are many specialists tools on the market that make cleaning your Venetian blinds an easy task, and it is worth investing in one when you purchase your blinds.

Venetian blinds are available as ready made blinds from most window blind outlets. Make sure that you measure your window accurately if you choose this option, as they can be difficult to cut, and of course, once cut, you will not be able to return them. Where Venetian blinds are concerned, unless you have a standard sized window, then it may be better to choose a custom made option and have it professionally fitted.
