Blinds GlossaryWhat are Roller Blinds?Roller blinds are the ideal solution when you need something functional, that will either let all the light in, or block out the light. They are usually made of a coated fabric, and are operated by a cord at the side of the window that enables the user to ‘roll’ the blind up and down. Roller blinds are available in arguably the most comprehensive array of colours and designs, so that you can match them to any décor. They are suitable for all rooms, although they are of particular use in the kitchen and bathroom. Apart from the many colours that they are available in, they often have scenes depicted on them, or other pictures. The wipe clean fabric means that they are easy to clean, either by wiping them with a damp cloth, or sponging them gently with a soapy solution. (Check manufacturers instructions before cleaning.) Roller blinds are either open or closed. Unlike some other blinds, it is not possible to adjust the amount of light that comes through. It is possible to roll the blind half way down a window, to block out, for example, sunlight when the sun is in certain positions in the sky, while still allowing some light to come through the window. When fully close, they provide a shield from most light, and a degree of privacy. Roller blinds are readily available as a readymade option, and if you have a standard sized window, then this will be a very cost effective. If however, you have non standard windows, then you may need to opt for a custom made roller blind. This is especially needed if you require a blind for a very long window. These blinds are relatively easy to fit to with some time, effort and care, although, as with all blind purchasing, you need to measure your window accurately and go for the next size up rather than down. |
