Blinds GlossaryWhat are DIY Blind Fittings?Your attitude to DIY blind fitting will depend on how ‘handy’ you are in a general sense. If the thought of picking up a drill terrifies you, then DIY blind fitting will probably not be for you. However, if you have some basic DIY general knowledge and you are prepared to put in some effort, then you may find it is not too difficult. One of the main reasons for people opting for DIY blind fitting is cost. Generally, you will be fitting the blind yourself because you have bought a readymade blind from one of the many home style or DIY shops. Many mail order companies also sell readymade blinds. This is a cost effective way of dressing your windows with blinds of all kinds, although bear in mind, some are more difficult than others to fit yourself. The easiest blinds to fit yourself are probably roller blinds. These are fitted onto on pole along the top with a simple pulley system that enables the user to open and close the blind. Blinds that can present some difficulty when opting for DIY blind fitting include the Venetian blind and the roman blind. The Venetian blind is made of a material that can be difficult to cut if the blind does not fit your window. Each slat has to be cut separately, which may be difficult even with the most painstaking measurement and marking techniques. Roman blinds are usually made of material. If you need to cut your blind to fit your window, you must make sure that the fabric will not fray where it has been cut. It may also be necessary to line a roman blind. A general rule of thumb is that if your windows are fairly standard in size, as with the many new houses that are built, then you should not encounter too much trouble opting for DIY blind fitting. If however, you have difficult to fit windows, then it may be best to opt for a professional fitting service. |
